Evaluation

“Evaluation is becoming an increasingly important activity in project management. The emphasis placed on evaluation by policy makers, funding bodies, strategists and practitioners is at an all time high.”

Frequently it is a condition of funding to hire an external evaluator. This could be an individual, research institute or a consulting firm. At Inside Out Learning, we recognise that there are widely differing theories, models and practices of evaluation. Unquestionably, evaluation means different things to different people, depending on their needs. Generally, it is considered that evaluation has two main purposes, these are: “Accountability” and “Improvement.”

An evaluation can be carried out at different stages in a project for example,

Formative Evaluation

This is typically conducted during the development or improvement of a programme.  The focus here is on improving the work in progress. It involves multiple stakeholders, multiple evaluation tools and considers plans, implementation, monitoring and progress.

Summative Evaluation

This type of evaluation provides information on a programme’s efficacy i.e. its ability to do what it was designed to do. It looks at the intended or unintended, positive or negative consequences of a programme or project.

Inside Out Learning provides exceptional evaluation services. Our approach is collaborative resulting in an evaluation that is systematic, supportive and evidence-based.
